And it's a crime that she only recorded a handful of albums. And while some of the tunes are a little too indicative of their respective times, all the songs have charm and intelligence (well, except "Warrior," which is a pretty dumb song).Patty Smyth is a true class act. This Patty Smyth's Greatest Hits Featuring Scandal album was released in 1998 and featured titles like The Warrior, Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough and Wish I Were You from Scandal and Patty Smyth. While "Greatest Hits" is a rather ambitious title for a CD by a woman who has three Top-40 hits to her credit, this entire album is first-rate '80s rock. The masterpiece here is the marvelous "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," but many other tracks are fabulous, such as the pensive "The River Cried" and a rocking ode to the passage of time called "Everyone Gets Older."Patty Smyth possesses a fantastic voice, very hard-edged and expressive.

Smyth married retired tennis player John McEnroe in 1997. The work earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media, as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. She performed and co-wrote with James Ingram the song "Look What Love Has Done" for the 1994 motion picture Junior. In the early 1990s she reached the Top 10 with the hit single "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough," a duet with Don Henley of the Eagles. Her debut solo album Never Enough was well received, and generated a pair of Top 100 hits. Her distinctive voice and new wave image gained broad exposure through video recordings aired on cable music video channels such as MTV. She first came into national attention with the rock band Scandal and went on to record and perform as a solo artist.
